Revolutionizing Corporate Identity: Aurika UAB's Award-Winning Water Design

Personalized Labels and Sustainable Packaging Define Aurika UAB's Innovative Approach

Unveiling the creative process behind Aurika UAB's award-winning water design, this article explores the unique properties, technological realization, and the inspiration behind this remarkable project.

Aurika UAB's water design project, aptly named 'Water,' is a testament to the brand's commitment to creativity, technological advancement, and sustainability. The project was born out of a need for a self-promotion item to communicate the company's activities and goals. The inspiration for the labels came from an unlikely source - the waste tanks of printing inks, which were found to have an unexpected artistic value. This led to the main idea of the label graphic design - an imitation of a stroke.

What sets this design apart is its personalized label. Starting with 500 unique designs, it has now evolved into an unlimited number. The graphic pattern changes on each bottle, and the product name is given in 21 languages that the company's visitors speak. Visual identification for carbonated or still water is created by dominating active or passive colors respectively. Multi-layer printing enables opaque vivid graphics from both sides of the bottle, and the visual impression is enhanced by a spot wet-touch tactile surface.

The realization of this design involved variable data printing with an automated algorithm to generate unique label designs during the print run. The label design in size and shape was adapted to an existing commercial product for contract manufacturing. The labels are printed by roll-fed digital printing, and the primary packaging is a glass bottle.

Technical specifications of the design reveal a conscious effort towards sustainability. A specially developed thinner glass bottle was chosen to reduce the consumption of virgin plastics. The label raw material contains a wash-off adhesive, making the entire packaging a part of a returnable packaging system. This approach combines aesthetics, packaging communication, and sustainability, making contract manufacturing easy and cost-effective.

The design also encourages interaction. Visitors find it attractive to find 'Water' in their language far from their country of residence, while others use a chance to learn 'Water' in different languages. The dominant colors also allow visitors to easily identify still or carbonated water without reading the label. This design presents the company with its personal approach, creativity, technological know-how, and interest in sustainability.

In recognition of its innovative design and sustainable approach, the 'Water' project was awarded Silver in the A' Packaging Design Award in 2019. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. It is a testament to Aurika UAB's commitment to pushing the boundaries of design and sustainability.
